Literary Analysis
Characters and Plot: The book Marine Sniper takes place during 1968-1975. Our main character is the legendary Marine sniper, Carlos Hathcock. Carlos Hathcock was born in Arkansas and was born into a military family. Hathcock joined the Marine Corps on his 18th birthday and went to boot-camp 3 months later. When Hathcock was shipped off to Vietnam he was a Infantry Machine-gunner. Hathcock was on the Marines shooting team and was a skilled marksman. When the higher up's in the Marine Corps got wind of Hathcocks skill, they gave him the offer to be a marksman. Hathcock obviously took their offer and came to be a legendary sniper. During Hathcock's tour in Vietnam he is in many different life or death situations. Many ending with him winning the fight with no friendly casualties.
Important Themes and Symbols: I feel the message of Carlos Hathcock's story is that you need to take risks and you need to go against all odds and try your hardest. Hathcock goes into enemy lines and fights vigorously to get out. Every action packed chapter reveals new things about Hathcock and the effects that risk taking presents to him.
